Description
Common in disturbed (recently cut-over) Quercus/Pinus forest, among scattered limestone rocks on gentle forest slope, with Juniperus, Smilax, Clematis, etc.
Collection notes
We made five Carex collections at this site: 3442 is distinct, with long +/-drooping inflorescences, and then four others that appear to be different, but may actually be conspecific and/or in need of further splitting (3443 is small, with stiff curling leaves; 3444 is small, with thin flimsy leaves; 3445 is large, with short beaks; 3446 is large, with long beaks). The latter four collections were growing mixed together, or at least in very close proximity.
