Description
Common on mossy rich soil on rocky path-side edge, with Amphicarpaea, Polystichum, cf Eupatorium rugosum, Thelypteris noveboracensis, Dennstaedtia, etc. Shaded moist deciduous forest by mountain stream, under Carya, Betula lenta, Quercus rubra, Liriodendron, Rhododendron, etc.
Collection notes
Collected two Carex cf appalachica at this site: a shorter, finer plant with less-spreading perigynia ("radiata-type"--CJR 2919) and a taller plant with more star-like speading spikes ("rosea-type"--CJR 2920). Both seemed common.
