Family
Smilacaceae

Smilax
Specific epithet
rotundifolia
Specific author
L.
Date determined
According to
Weakley, Flora of the Carolinas … , 2008 draft.
Identification comments
Keyed to rotundifolia, but both Will Cook and I thought it looked weird in the field. Leaves are fairly narrow, acute-tipped, dark green, not particularly shiny, with veins impressed above (and protruding below), with scabrous margin of irregular tooth-like projections. Branches brittle, sparsely armed with strong straight dark prickles. "Petals" recurving, green, antherish whitish, flowers fell off easily.
