Growing on ledges of porphyritic (with phenocrysts/feldspar) columnar basalt & basalt rubble. Nearby associates: Pentagramma pallida, Quercus, Aesculus californica, Toxicodendron diversilobum, Diplacus aurantiacus, Selaginella hansenii, Myriopteris covillei (?), Pellaeae mucronata, Ribes speciosa, Streptanthus tortuosus.
