Growing on granitic sandy soil near a wash. Dominant vascular plants in the community include buckhorn cholla (Cylindropuntia acanthocarpa) and Mojave yucca (Yucca schidigera). Also present are blackbrush (Coleogyne ramosissima), pencil cholla (Cylindropuntia ramosissima), California buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum), and California desert olive (Forestiera pubescens).

A few plants wedged under the south side of a granitic boulder in the NW side of Granite Cove in Sweeney Granite Mountains Desert Research Center, Mojave Desert, Nipton, CA.
