Description
On sandy soil, on gentle slope down to the Eno River (~6m from water). Rocky area, quite open, with Luzula, Andropogon (?), Erythronium, Smilax, Lonicera, Elaphatophus, Aesculus sylvaticus, etc. Under scattered small angiosperm trees (Liquidambar, Carpinus, Betula, etc.) and large Juniperus.
Collection notes
Made four Carex collections here, within a few meters of each other. CJR3749 (cf. nigromarginata) was common, perhaps particularly on slightly higher drier spots; 3750 and 3751 (cf. reznicekii) were both possibly common, but hard to differentiate in the field. 3750 appears to have chubbier perigynia, slightly more pubescent perigynia and pistillate scales, consistently short culms, and bluer stiffer foliage than 3751 (the "normal" C.reznicekii?). Finally 3752 is immature (flowering), with very prominent staminate spikes. It was uncommon. Subsamples were silica-dried from each collection.
