Description
Common on pockets of rich soil over bedrock outcrops, on slope above mountain stream, with Rosa multiflora, Polystichum, Hamamelis, Carex digitialis (CJR 2923), cf Eupatorium rugosum, Rubus occidentalis, etc. Full shade, under Acer rubrum, Liriodendron, etc.
Collection notes
Collected two Carex cf appalachica at this site: a shorter, finer plant with less-spreading perigynia ("radiata-type"--CJR 2919) and a taller plant with more star-like speading spikes ("rosea-type"--CJR 2920). Both seemed common.
