D.Poindexter: This is part of the C. globosa-xerophila complex. When I was separating material into globosa or xerophila, I found a Howell? collection from the serpentine in Marin Co. (Mt. Tamalpais) that was not a clear fit. This is the same plant. I would definitely call it C. globosa for now.
